Enhancing Positive Psychology through Picture Book Reading

Overview

Picture books are a good tool to initiate positive education. Using picture books as teaching materials helps children recognise, acknowledge and express emotions. The addition of psychological and counselling elements, such as the iceberg metaphor, the self-esteem kit, the weather report from Satir model, helps children to become involved in the story, or to stimulate them to further explore the rich resources and treasures within, and ultimately to understand themselves and enhance their positive psychology.

The seminar begins with a review of relevant literature and a selection of different picture books as examples to share how to integrate psychological and counselling elements into picture book reading or teaching, followed by a sharing on the process of integrating theory into picture book production based on the speaker's educational and counselling experience.
