Broaden the Life Experiences of Non-Chinese Speaking Students and Develop their 21st Century Skills

Students may face unpredictable challenges in such an ever-changing environment as they grow up. Equipping them with life-long skills and a positive attitude is more important than teaching them knowledge alone. Life experience should not be separated from effective learning. However, socioeconomic factors and limited access to community resources can limit the life experiences of non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students in Hong Kong when compared with the local students. As children’s life experience mainly comes from family and school, we, the educators, must take on a more significant role in the overall development of non-Chinese speaking students through various learning activities to broaden students’ horizons, cultivate generic skills, and inspire their potential.
