Beyond Languages: Communicate, Collaborate and Curate!

Overview

Workplace communication training is a pillar of the development of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET). The notion of workplace communication is dynamic and affected by factors such as technology advancement and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which have changed the forms and tools of communication. Instant messaging, social media, online meetings and video presentations have become prevalent in the workplace. To prepare students for the digital transformation, it is of paramount importance to develop students’ ability to listen and speak, to apply disciplinary knowledge and emerging skills in authentic workplace communication and to curate interactive content with multimedia to engage a large audience. Therefore, the Languages Discipline of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) has formulated a ‘3Cs Strategy’ (Communication, Collaboration and Curation) to enhance students’ overall communicative competence for future jobs and emerging opportunities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), Mainland and worldwide.
