Crossing the Boundary of 'Reading' among Different Subjects — Reading Across the Curriculum in Chinese Language and English Language

K12 Theatre

Overview

Reading is the foundation of language learning, and is the primary and common goal of Chinese and English language teaching in the school. In the past, the Chinese and English departments of this school have co-organised morning reading sharing sessions to help students learn more about Chinese and Western cultures through reading. In this school year, the teachers of the two subjects in this school cooperated with the Language Learning Support Section of the Education Bureau to help students move from extracurricular reading to classroom reading. With the space released by optimising the senior secondary core subjects, the school teams have designed a cross-curricular reading module for the two core language subjects, which is in line with the continual curriculum development and the language curriculum of the school.

The module aims to enhance students’ understanding of the concept of ‘family ethics’ in Chinese and Western cultures, and various multimodal texts are used as learning materials. Through learning different reading strategies, students can improve their skills in intensive reading. At the same time, the school can promote cultural learning and cultivate morality and affection among students.
