The Three-tier Implementation Model for Gifted Education to Implement School-based STEM Education

InnoSTEMer (Seminar)

Overview

This school adopts the 'Three-Tier Implementation Model' to plan and implement the school-based gifted education in STEM Education.

Level 1 — School-based whole-class teaching:
A regular school-based STEM curriculum takes two years across four semesters. It consists of seven interdisciplinary courses:
1.Design and Building Electric Model Boat;
2.3D Graphics Design and 3D Printing;
3.Design and Create Circuit Device on Renewable Energy;
4.Drone Operation and Programming;
5.Biotechnology related to the Protection of Endangered Species;
6.Arduino Programming; and
7.Final project – At the end of the course students would have the opportunity to utilise their creativity to design a smart product by using Arduino Programme.

Level 2 — School-based pull-out programmes:
Students with talents in STEM fields are selected to join the STEM Ambassador Programme. The programme provides a more in-depth training in specific areas. Different platforms are also set up to enable the students to explore and utilise their strengths.

Level 3 — Off-school support or representing school to participate competitions:
The school is working together with Lingnan University as part of their 'Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative (LEI)' programme. The programme provides valuable resource and training to our students. With their support our students are developing an award-winning product — 'Hands-free Tracking Smart Shopping Cart', to apply for a patent for this piece of innovative work.
