Maker Education: Children with Special Educational Needs Can Also Inspire Others

InnoSTEMer (Seminar)

Overview

Maker Education is an educational trend in recent years. In the past few years, the Education Bureau has actively promoted STEM education. School-based curriculum development has shifted towards STEM education so that students will be prepared to engage in lifelong learning in the 21st century in response to local and international changes. The Society of Boys' Centres Hui Chung Sing Memorial School actively promotes Maker Education and produces different Maker courses to cater for students with special educational needs. Through a variety of learning experiences, it is hoped that students will gain a deeper understanding of technology development and application. Using the proper education method, we believe that our students can solve real-life problems through collaboration and cooperation, and implement their ideas to positively influence the lives of others. John Dewey, a great educator, said, 'Education is not preparation for life; it is life itself’. As part of his philosophy, he stresses the importance of education in the lives of children with special needs, and that they are interconnected.

'Maker Course' is a life-affecting process:
'Education is a life-affecting process, and the whole journey begins by touching one heart, who in turn, touches another'.

How do you deal with the emotion of students? Understand the possible reason behind.

How do you manage the behaviour of students? Guide them to satisfy their wants.
How do you handle the incident of students? Regard them as an opportunity to grow.

Identify the strength of children with special educational needs throughout the learning journey.

Let children with special education needs master learning skills, discover the excitement of learning to sustain motivation and enthusiasm throughout the learning journey.
