Career and Life Planning for SEN Youth — Is There a Way Out to Enhance Personal Resources?

Overview

To meet the demands of SEN graduates of secondary schools for continuing education, the Centre for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education of the Education University of Hong Kong, with donations from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, launched the Jockey Club Youth Academy for SEN in early 2019, aiming at providing a life-long learning and personal development opportunity on a university campus for them. Through evidence-based research, the team has witnessed students’ transformation and, at the same time, has developed an assessment tool in the form of a board game to assess the personal resources of SEN youth in four dimensions, namely: ‘Concern, Control, Curiosity & Confidence’ to facilitate the career and life planning for SEN young people. The assessment tools have been distributed free of charge to frontline secondary school teachers to facilitate their career and life planning for their SEN students too. This sharing will focus on career and life planning for SEN and how the assessment tool works for them.
