Boosting Chinese Writing with a VR Journey

21st Century Classroom

Overview

Under the pandemic, students lack the first-hand experience of field trips, resulting in their travel notes being too plain and boring. The use of VR elements in teaching Chinese writing can gather students and people from the world to visit Yim Tin Tsai. By adding interactive language learning activities such as multiple-choice questions, quizzes and voice navigation to the VR teaching software, it encourages students to write travel notes. Teachers can facilitate students to play with VR to visit various places in classes, while students can also continue their journey after classes by themselves to record their experience in handouts. The Chinese writing lesson consolidates students' learning by incorporating literatures to enrich students' knowledge. Alongside with technological elements, it increases students' interest in learning significantly.

In this open lesson, VR teaching materials, school-based writing handouts and videos of in-class teaching with students will be displayed. To explain our school’s teaching goals and design concepts, as well as how to enhance students' skills in writing and cultivate students' interests towards literature and cultural studies. Students' writing results would also be shown by the end of the lessons. Through the use of tablets, the general public can experience classroom version of VR teaching software (the teaching software consists of 3 different versions, which are the experience version, classroom version and full version respectively). Hence, the speaker will guide users on a journey to visit Yim Tin Tsai and complete the quizzes in tutorial.
